Snowmobiling
Power tobogganing, as some call it up here in Nunavut, can be an adventure in itself – or it can zip and zoom you on the path to other experiences across high Arctic plateaus, down frozen river beds, beside towering ice cliffs and rock faces, over the sea-ice or out to the floe edge. For riders with adventure in their blood you’ll traverse trails where caribou migrate or cross the tracks of arctic fox, wolves and ptarmigan.
It’s not the traditional way, but it sure gets you around.
ATVs and snowmobiling have become a modern alternative to trekking, snowshoeing or dogsledding. A new way to travel to the old places where you can ice fish, see the wildlife or to get to and from our parks, sanctuaries, cultural sites and local communities.
Trips can be short runs or multi-day expeditions with accommodation in cabins, tents or igloos. Experienced outfitters with expert guides in almost every Nunavut community can provide you with the equipment you need for preset ATV and snowmobile packages or customized trips. Some may even combine snowmobiling with dogsledding so you can experience the old and new together.
